MILLIKEN was an Ottawa-based three-piece rock band with an emphasis on vocal harmonies. Formed in 2002, they performed a mix of originals and covers. Their original songs were written by Dave and Cindy, who developed a strong system for writing that allowed each one's creative talents to be enhanced by the other's intuitive reactions. MILLIKEN also added their own funky style to several popular rock and folk tunes. They disbanded in 2007.

The wicked guitar sounds of MILLIKEN emanate from the talented Dave Milliken. He also sings lead and harmonies and writes the music and some of the lyrics for the originals. Dave is an integral part of several Ottawa-based rock, folk, classical, funk and R&B groups including The Priorities, Junkyard Symphony, Namaoke and Duo Capriccio. Dave co-writes with Andrea England and performed with her at the 2000 Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Nova Scotia, the 2002 East Coast Music Awards Songwriters’ Circle in Saint John, New Brunswick, and the 2002 North By Northeast music festival in Toronto. Their song, Lemonade, was a prize winner in the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, which drew more than 25,000 entries. Dave’s guitar work is featured on the CDs Lemonade by Andrea England (Lemonade Factory Records, Maple Nationwide/Universal Music, 2004), Planet Junk by Junkyard Symphony (Boulder Records, 2002), Heart Wide Open by Andrea England (Independent, 1999) and Fetch by Saddledogs (Independent, 1994). Dave has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa and has been teaching guitar privately and at the Ottawa Folklore Centre School of Music since 1990.

Performing lead vocals and awesome harmonies, Cindy Milliken also plays bass in MILLIKEN and writes most of the lyrics for the original songs. Cindy’s love of music and singing led to her participation in school choirs and vocal groups from the age of 5 up to her high school graduation ceremony. Some of those groups won awards at music festivals in Canada and the U.S. Cindy also played the clarinet for several years and was part of award-winning concert bands and jazz ensembles. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and has always been attracted to the magical workings of language. She is a published poet and an accomplished lyricist.

As the youngest and newest member of MILLIKEN, Mary Gellner adds a great energy and groove to the band. She has ten years of experience drumming in many styles. She has played drums with several Ottawa groups, including The Nepean All City Jazz Band, In-Tuition (Carleton U. Big Band), a community production of Jesus Christ Super Star, Frank Lindo, and Spankdriven. She is currently also playing with The Maria Hawkins Band and Sedrick. Mary has had the opportunity to play with many great jazz musicians such as Christine Jenson, Chase Sanborne, Bob Mintzer, Denny Christianson and Alex Dean. In high school and university, playing with the Nepean All City Jazz Band, Mary was the recipient of awards and music scholarships at Provincial and National Music Festivals. She was also selected to play in the Yamaha All Star Jazz Band at the 2003 Ottawa International Jazz Festival where she opened for the Maria Schneider Orchestra. Mary can be seen on an episode of The Kevin Spencer show playing herself in an all-female rock band, Spankdriven! Mary is currently studying her last year of Architectural Technology and continues to teach drumset and percussion to budding young drummers.
